LA GUARDIA
The sunny hills were already covered with vineyards when La Guardia was owned by Prince Centurione and was part of the Morsasco Castle. The Priarone family acquired ownership in the 1960s, and the initial seven hectares, after several subsequent acquisitions, grew to approximately thirty-five, entirely planted with vines. Of fundamental importance were the thirteen hectares of Villa Delfini, which, with its rolling hills and ancient, evocative cellars, inspired a new way of interpreting wine and the world around it. Quality at all costs became the new family motto. The La Guardia logo was placed alongside that of Villa Delfini. The seventeenth-century underground cellars of Villa Delfini house the barriques used to age the most important red wines, while those overlooking the park are used exclusively to host events where wine always takes center stage. THE GRAPE VARIETIES - The historic and native grape varieties are: Dolcetto, Barbera, Albarossa, and Brachetto - the reds Cortese - the white. The international grape varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Pinot Noir - the reds Chardonnay - the white. We have always adhered to a fundamental principle: great wine is born in the vineyard, and it is to it that the most attentive and scrupulous care must be given first. Through severe pruning, and even thinning if necessary, the yield of the land is literally halved. This results in wines with a strong structure that can last for many years.
