Description

The connection of the city of Alessandria with Napoleon is palpable; the town still preserves the medieval star-shaped centre and the charm of a discreet town which suffered the impulse of a profound change even after Bonaparte’s downfall.

Napoleon Bonaparte always remained connected to the memory of Marengo and his body in St. Helena was wrapped in the light blue cloak he wore on 14 June during the Battle which, won after twelve hours, put Lombardy, Piedmont, Liguria and the twelve fortified squares which defended these states under the influence of France. It was so intrinsic in value that it was recalled in 1805 by the same First Consol.

To follow, starting from Alessandria, ideal gateway to Monferrato, the route takes us to discover the small village of Rosignano Monferrato with its infernots, which are UNESCO heritage sites. There is also the route dedicated to Angelo Morbelli, one of the most representative protagonists of Italian Divisionism.
