- The “checkered sea” in the River Po Park
- Enjoy a glass of Barbera, one of the rewards of your cycling
Welcome to the gently rolling UNESCO hills of northern Monferrato! Be captivated by an area where culture, food and wine, nature and cycle tourism are the added values of this corner of Piedmont to be discovered and with so much to tell! Vineyards, castles, characteristic villages (including the beautiful Cella Monte), castles, big benches and the local "infernot" are the pieces of a mosaic crossed by dirt roads which are just waiting to be cycled!
Accommodation: Ariotto Village, 4* hotel.
Day 1 | Walk in the nearby Casale Monferrato
Our E-Bike – licensed guide will welcome you to the hotel and take you on a guided tour of Casale Monferrato on foot. This will be your first approach to this area.
Day 2 | Between the Monferrato Hills and the checkered sea. Towns crossed: Terruggia – Occimiano – Mirabello – Giarole – Pomaro – Frassineto Po – Terruggia
This route aspires to be an unusual meeting and melting point between 2 adjacent and diametrically opposed lands: the gently rolling hills of Monferrato casalese and the unspoilt environment of the River Po Park. The stars of the day will be the gently rolling hills that head into the plain of rice fields (the famous checkered sea) close to the River Po, the long banks of the Vento route but also the small villages of plains and hills where time is still lived on a human scale.
Day 3 | “UNESCO Route”. Towns crossed: Terruggia, Rosignano, Cellamonte, Sala Monferrato, Ottiglio, Grazzano, Casorzo, Olivola, Terruggia
The “UNESCO” bike route crosses the characteristic villages of northern Monferrato casalese which still preserve the ancient rural traditions and the “infernot” which are the traditional wine cellars dug into the cantone stone which are the “unique feature” of this land. Cella Monte (One of the Most Beautiful Towns of Italy), Rosignano and Olivola are just some of the names of the towns crossed and surrounded by expanses of vineyards, panoramic views with big benches and large coloured pencils which are a delightful backdrop to the vines.
Day 4 | By bike between the North Pole and the Equator. Towns crossed: Terruggia, Conzano, Camagna, Cuccaro, Lu, San Salvatore Monferrato, Mirabello, Occimiano, Terruggia
If century-old towers, churches, vineyards, big benches, fantastic panoramic points and kilometers of dirt roads were not enough, there is another curious element which some of the picturesque villages share and that make this route even more interesting: crossing the 45th parallel, which places this corner of northern Monferrato exactly between the North Pole and the Equator! Last but not least, and no less importantly, crossing Cuccaro, a tiny village in Monferrato and probable birthplace of the famous explorer and navigator Christopher Columbus!Price
