Day 1

Arrive to Casale Monferrato late morning and day dedicated to the visit of the town starting from Piazza Castello and the imposing Castle of the Paleologi, home to the Gonzaga family until the second half of the 16th century, before it became a fortress. Casale is one of the gateways to Monferrato, between the Po Valley and the hills of the territory which is now a UNESCO heritage site. The Gonzaga made it one of the most prestigious centres of Europe and it can be experienced during the visit of the centre, rich in architectural treasures, civilian and religious buildings. Having left Piazza Castello we continue to Via Saffi, rich in workshops and shops, and dominated by the 11th century civic tower, one of the symbols of the town. Delicious stop-off with the "Krumiro Experience' tasting of sweet and savoury Krumiri while our expert pastry maker tells us the story of these famous biscuits. The visit continues with the Church of San Domenico and the Cathedral of Sant'Evasio and, not to miss out on, the Synagogue, built in 1595, extraordinary example of late baroque architecture, featuring stuccos, gold and precious wooden furnishings. The visit continues with the Museum of Lights which preserves a collection of Chanukkiot of contemporary art, produced by both Jewish and non-Jewish artists, including Elio Carni and Emanuele Luzzati. The collection is a unique opportunity to see the different ways in which the many artists have tackled the problems connected with the formal project of a ritual object. The Museum of Lights is currently hosted in the underground rooms of the community once used as ovens to bake the azzime - matzot - the unleavened bread which the Jewish eat during the Jewish Easter.

The route continues with another important stop-off point to discover the 20th century with the Bistolfi plaster-cast gallery at the Civic Museum.

The Leonardo Bistolfi Plaster Cast Gallery is home to more than 170 works among terracotta, drawings, plasticines, plaster sketches and models. These materials allow to understand the different phases of Bistolfi's artistic process, one of the major international interpreters of Symbolism: from the sketch in terracotta in which the sculptor immediately fixed his first intuition, to the subsequent plaster sketch, to the final model which concretised the final idea and formed the effective realisation of the work, before its transposition into marble and bronze.

Before leaving the town, visit and tasting session in the long-established Magnoberta 1918 distillery.

Transfer to Monferrato, dinner in osteria and overnight stay in B&B.

Day 2

Morning dedicated to discovering the delightful village of Rosignano Monferrato, scenic village which falls under the "Monferrato degli Infernot" UNESCO heritage site since 2014. Situated in a privileged position, Rosignano will offer visitors breathtaking landscapes on the surrounding hills, the Castle of Uviglie and Cella Monte. After the visit to the municipal infernots, our itinerary continues with the Morbelli route, in honour of the famous Angelo Morbelli, one of the maximum exponents of Italian Divisionism. A delightful walk across the hills will be followed by an extraordinary route thanks to the panels positioned in the locations reproduced in his works.

The route ends in Villa Maria, where the painter resided and painted the hills of Rosignano. The villa is still the residence of his heirs and can be visited upon booking.

Lunch in agriturismo with local menu.

In the early afternoon transfer by own means to the gently rolling hills of Monferrato to the gracious village of Lu where you will visit the Museum of San Giacomo. The Sacred Art Museum is inserted in the complex of San Giacomo, formed by the 17th century church, the sacristy and Casa della Reggenza. The exhibition rooms are home to the most important testimonies of Lu and its territory: gold jewellery, reliquaries, sacred paraments, wooden sculptures, prestigious paintings on canvas, including works by Stefano Maria Clemente, Orsola Maddalena Caccia, Giuseppe Antonio Torricelli, of the artist’s workshop such as Guglielmo Caccia known as Il Moncalvo and Domenico Piola, as well as the exhibition dedicated to the Divisionist painter Luigi Onetti, which includes several unpublished works of the artist from Lu purchased recently which increase the size of the collection.
