The exhibition is organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Alessandria-Asti, Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Alessandria and Regione Piemonte. The curators are Maria Luisa Caffarelli and Rino Tacchella.
The exhibition will be inaugurated on Saturday 11 December 2021 and stay open to the public for the entire Christmas period and until 13 March 2022. Extended to 1 May. The focus of the event of Palazzo Monferrato will be the significant contribution that the artists of the entire province of Alessandria have made to the history of Italian art in the last century.
The names of Pellizza, Morbelli, Bistolfi and Carrà would be enough to indicate a leading role in giving life to the most important and innovative movements of the national and international artistic panorama.
However, alongside those extraordinary figures, the area of Alessandria also gave birth to several hugely significant artists absolutely worthy of being included next to masters or school heads. Some transferred to centres like Milan, Turin or Rome, others undertook journeys throughout Europe, and continued to work. They each contributed to interpreting the new expressions of art which were taking hold, weaving on the territory a network of relations that gave life to a dense web of creativity and research.
The exhibition aspires, in other words, to create an unprecedented tale of a century in which new forms of expression and revolutionary cultural situations emerged in the space of a few decades, without neglecting as being of central importance the extraordinary season of architecture which in the 20th century saw figures like Marcello Piacentini, Piero Porcinai, Franco Petrucci, Ignazio Gardella, Paolo Portoghesi, work in the area of Alessandria. This is a theme on which the project includes a catalogue text and multimedia and photographic references along the exhibition route, which will be justifiably enriched with links, also multimedia and immersive, to the artistic movements and to its founders and protagonists within a comprehensive project carried out by Giorgio Annone of Line.Lab - Alessandria.
