Getting to know Val Cerrina is like opening a treasure trove full of surprises. If you happen to find yourselves in bel posto, at the top of this small hamlet of Odalengo, where the panorama sweeps out in every direction, then you have hit the jackpot! In spring, you can stop on the balcony overlooking the hills and with the flower carts that will make the atmosphere magical and highly fragrant. Inside, the simple and rustic dining room communicates warmth with the exposed brick and wood beams. The service is friendly and cordial. Luigino and his daughter Federica will greet you, while the kitchen is mamma Silvana’s kingdom. The wine is produced on site, as is most of the food you will eat. Needless to say, the dishes are of the Piedmontese tradition. You will start with cured meats, the excellent tartare and veal in tuna sauce, but also peppers with bagnacaoda (garlic and anchovy sauce) and the Russian salad prepared in the old-style. First course: just the homemade agnolotti pasta by itself makes the journey worthwhile, but the risotto with vegetables is equally good, served in more than generous portions or the potato dumplings with sausage sauce. Main course: Do not miss out on the mixed Monferrato fry, the true highlight of this eatery….simply exquisite! There is also veal fillet with green pepper and roasted veal. On booking: mixed boiled beef, finanziera (stew), chicken alla cacciatora, bagnacaoda (garlic and anchovy dip usually served with vegetables). The peach cake and the apple cake with amaretti and chocolate are simply divine. Accompany the meal with a choice Barbera or Grignolino. Definitely an experience to remember
