European Archaeology Days
The initiative entitled Archaeology Days will take place from 14 to 16 June 2019. Set up in France in 2010, it is also promoted by the Ministry for cultural assets and activities. The superintendency for the architectural, fine arts and landscape heritage for the provinces of Alessandria, Asti and Cuneo has given its support for this year's edition and will dedicate Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June to classical theatre with theatrical guided tours of the Archaeological area of Libarna and the participation of students of the secondary schools of Novi Ligure, Tortona and Casale Monferrato. On Saturday 15 June, starting from 5 pm, theatrical guided tours with archaeologist followed by the performance of "Hecuba" (text based on Euripides) by the students of the classical theatre workshop of the Peano Secondary School of Tortona. On Sunday 16 June, always from 5 pm, following the guided tours, in the area of the amphitheatre, visitors can watch the performances of "The faces of Medea: timeless itineraries" (text based on Euripides and "Medea. Voices" by Christa Wolf) by the students of the classical theatre workshop of the Balbo Secondary School of Casale Monferrato and "The Suppliants" (text based on Aeschylus) which will star the students of the Amaldi Secondary School of Novi Ligure. Along the route, under the guidance of an archaeologist, visitors will have the possibility to explore the history of Libarna with specific reference to the buildings for the performance (theatre and amphitheatre) and then watch (standing and in close contact with the actors) the students’ performance. The event is organised in association with the Libarna Arteventi Association, the Secondary Schools Amaldi of Novi Ligure, Peano of Tortona and Balbo of Casale Monferrato, and the sponsorship of MIUR (Ministry of Universities and Research) – Alessandria Office of Education, of the Province of Alessandria and of the Municipality of Arquata Scrivia
