Between Classicism and Baroque at the Sacred Mount of Crea: De Wespin brothers told by the writer Graziella Riviera
15 June 2020
The Sacred Mount of Crea, overlooking one of the most breathtaking winegrowing landscapes of Piedmont, has a complex and experienced history of which the scars and trophies remain. Here, in those troubled years, two brothers and sculptors, Jean and Nicolas de Wespin, looking at the Sacred Mount of Varallo, where Jean had already sculpted the masterpiece of “Salita al Calvario” (Climb to Calvary), created the most monumental chapels of the Sacred Mount of Crea from the first and dramatic chapel dedicated to Saint Eusebius to the sensational scene of the Coronation of Mary, known as Paradise. Graziella Riviera will be the exceptional guide to the discovery of two artists and their extraordinary experience.
The conference is one of the events of the year dedicated to the Baroque period in the Piedmont region (for the complete list of events and locations: www.visitpiemonte.com/it/arte-e-cultura/lessenziale-e-barocco/calendario-appuntamenti).
